One of three new paintings for the year (Taken with instagram)
After a year in Boston I have moved back to my home state of Ohio. Boston was a learning experience, but I expect my life here to be more financially conducive to the creation of art. In fact I have designs on starting new work around the middle of the month. Hopefully there will more updates soon. In the meantime I’m working on getting connected with local art community. Yea for the buckeye state! Yea for Mansfield! Yea for Relax Cafe! Yea for my wife’s band! Yea for communal living! Yea for art!
I spend a lot of time at local shows with my wife’s band. The atmosphere has inspired me to start a new sketchbook for drawing hipsters. This isn’t really a jab at hipsters, since I guess I’m part of that culture. It’s more just observation, capturing ideas of people from a particular culture that happens to be part of my life, a bit like keeping a journal.
I’m drawing on Egon Schiele quite a bit for the style. I don’t really feel compelled to draw the same as I paint with all the appropriation and borrowed imagery, drawing just seems more casual and personal to me.
